Frequently Asked Questions

Creating a Legacy Film is a deeply personal experience, and it's natural to have questions before getting started. We've answered some of the most common questions families ask.

If there's anything we haven't covered, we're always here to help.

About Legacy Films

What is a Legacy Film?

A Legacy Film is more than a video. It is a cinematic story that preserves someone's memories, voice, personality, values, and life experiences so future generations can know them in a deeply personal way.

Who are Legacy Films created for?

Legacy Films are created for families who want to preserve the stories of the people they love.

Common reasons families create one:

  • Adult children wanting to capture their parents' stories
  • Grandparents wanting to leave something meaningful behind
  • Families celebrating milestones
  • Individuals wanting future generations to know their journey
Is this only for seniors?

Not at all. While many of our clients are older adults, anyone with a story worth preserving can benefit from a Legacy Film.

What makes a Legacy Film different from recording a video ourselves?

A phone recording captures words. A professionally created Legacy Film captures the emotions, personality, and moments that make someone's story unforgettable.

We guide the conversation, shape the story, and craft the memories into a film your family will treasure.

Before the Filming

What if my story doesn't seem important enough to preserve?

Many people feel this way at first. They don't see their own life as extraordinary.

But the stories families treasure most are often the simple ones — childhood memories, family traditions, lessons learned, challenges overcome, and moments that shaped who someone became.

Every life has a story worth remembering.

What if my parent doesn't think their story is worth sharing?

This is very common. Many people underestimate how meaningful their experiences are to their family.

A Legacy Film is not about having a famous or extraordinary life. It is about preserving the memories, wisdom, and personality that only they can share.

How do we prepare for the interview?

You don't need to memorize anything or prepare a speech. We'll guide the conversation with thoughtful questions and create a relaxed environment where stories come naturally.

If you'd like, you can gather meaningful photos, letters, keepsakes, or other items you'd enjoy talking about during the interview.

What should I wear?

Wear something comfortable that makes you feel like yourself. Solid colors generally look best on camera, while clothing with busy patterns or large logos is best avoided.

Can family members help prepare?

Absolutely. Family members often help identify meaningful stories, gather photographs, and suggest topics they'd love preserved.

The Filming Experience

What is filming day actually like?

Most people are surprised by how relaxed it feels.

Rather than feeling like an interview, it becomes a conversation. We move at your pace, take breaks whenever needed, and create an environment where you can simply share your stories.

What if I'm nervous?

That's completely normal.

Almost everyone tells us they're nervous before we begin, and nearly everyone says they forgot the cameras were there after a few minutes. Our job is to make you feel comfortable, not to put you on the spot.

What if I don't know what to say?

That's why we're here.

We'll ask thoughtful questions, listen carefully, and gently guide the conversation. You don't need to have your stories planned ahead of time.

How long does filming take?

The length depends on the package you choose, but most filming sessions last between 2 and 4 hours, including breaks.

Can we film at home?

Yes. Many families choose to film in their home because it's comfortable and meaningful. We can also film in another location that's important to you.

Can family members be present?

Yes. Some families prefer a private conversation, while others enjoy having loved ones nearby for support. We'll discuss what feels right for you before filming.

Will there be multiple cameras and lots of equipment?

We bring professional equipment, but we keep our setup as unobtrusive as possible so the focus stays on the conversation, not the cameras.

Ready to Preserve Their Story?

Every story is unique.

We'll help you understand the process and create a meaningful plan for capturing the memories that matter most.

Stories & Content

What kinds of questions do you ask?

Every interview is personalized, but topics often include:

  • Childhood memories
  • Family traditions
  • Career and life experiences
  • Lessons learned
  • Favorite stories
  • Marriage and relationships
  • Advice for future generations
  • Hopes for children and grandchildren
Can we request specific questions?

Absolutely. We encourage families to share stories or topics they'd especially like included.

Can difficult or emotional topics be included?

Yes, if you want them to be. Every person's story is unique, and we'll always approach sensitive subjects with care, compassion, and respect.

What if someone becomes emotional?

That's perfectly okay.

Real emotion is often part of telling meaningful stories. We never rush the conversation, and we'll pause whenever someone needs a break.

After Filming

What happens after filming?

We carefully edit your interview into a polished, cinematic film, incorporating photos and other personal elements when included in your package.

How long does editing take?

Delivery times vary depending on the project and season. We'll provide an estimated timeline before filming begins.

Can we request changes?

Yes. We'll explain the revision process before your project begins so you know exactly what to expect.

How will we receive our film?

Your completed film is delivered online. Depending on your package, USB keepsake, DVD, or a combination of these formats are available as optional add-ons.
